Demopolis Police Set to Host Youth Leadership Academy
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A summer program in Demopolis is trying to bridge the gap between police and the community through leadership training.
The police department and the city school system are teaming up for a Youth Leadership Academy this summer for children age 11 to 15.
Organizers say youth who attend the academy will get training on topics that include bullying, peer pressure, cultural diversity and decision-making.
“We want to educate the total child,” said Demopolis Middle School Principal Blaine Hathcock. “And part of that is having good character and being good citizens and doing the right things in the community.”
