Bosco Center Opens Cooling Station in Selma
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The official start of summer may be weeks away but people in Selma are already feeling the heat.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 90s this weekend putting some people at risk for heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heat stroke.
That’s why the Bosco Nutrition Center will also double as a cooling station — to help people get out of the scorching heat.
“We have this building available for them to come in and get refreshed,” said Bosco Director Bradford Perry. “They can come in and get a glass of water or a glass of cold juice and just get from that oppressive heat.”
Staying properly hydrated — wearing a hat and loose-fitting, light-colored clothing — and resting often in shady or air-conditioned places can help prevent heat-related illnesses.
