From the West Alabama Newsroom– State workers are finishing up a major road improvement project in Marion — and city leaders say more road improvements are on the way.
The ride driving through the heart of the city of Marion is a whole lot smoother today than it was just two weeks ago.
A one and a half mile stretch of Washington Street has been repaved as part of a state road improvement project.
“It puts a better image on a city when your main road is paved instead of bumping up and down the road like it has been,” said Marion Mayor Tony Long.
Long says handicapped accessible sidewalks are also being installed at several intersections on Washington Street — as part of the state project.
He says the city is getting ready to start a paving project of its own in the next few weeks.
Long says the city is preparing to repave three streets.
