AUM’s Moody earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

AUSTIN, Texas  (aumathletics.com) —- Auburn Montgomery pitcher Raymond Moody continued to collect postseason awards following his senior campaign Tuesday, when he was named to the 2016 Academic All-American College Division Baseball First Team, chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Baseball Team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions. An Academic All-District selection earlier this month, Moody was eligible for recognition, by maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 and reaching sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution.

Moody graduated from AUM with a degree in accounting this past spring, sporting a perfect 4.0 grade point average. He was selected a NAIA Scholar Athlete and earned All-Academic honors from the Southern States Athletic Conference this past season.

On the field, the Greenville, Ala., native posted a 9-1 record with a 4.08 earned run average. He tossed a team-best 88 1/3 innings, striking out 63 and allowing opponents to hit just .287. He threw three complete games on the year, including a three-hit, nine-inning complete game against Martin Methodist. A First-Team All-SSAC selection, Moody finished 6-0 with a 2.72 ERA in conference games.

The first and second team was composed of 22 student-athletes, with a combined grade point average of 3.72. Two of the members sported a perfect 4.0 GPA – Moody and Jordan Braswell from Lyon College.

Moody and the Warhawks finished the 2016 campaign 46-17 and made the program’s fourth appearance in the Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series.
