Pike Co. Boys and Girls Club Seeing Positive Changes

New leadership and partnerships at the Pike and Surrounding Counties Boys and Girls Club means good news for the club’s bottom line. Also good news for what the club is all about- serving the children.Â
Â
Seventy kids enrolled in the 6-week summer program aimed at providing a safe place at a low cost.Â
Â
It’s always been a struggle to come up with the funds to keep the club open, but the board and new chief professional officer say their situation has improved.Â
Â
They’ve been utilizing partnerships in the community to benefit the children. For example, the City of Troy has provided transportation to the pool and movie theater at no cost to the club.Â
Â
Wayne Buchanan, CPO since December 2013 said, “Whether it be from the tissue paper we use the toilet paper and paper towels to cleaning supplies we will be good stewards of what we have. And we are going to take good care of this Boys and Girls Club and we are teaching our members that this is their house and just like they take good care of things at their home they are going to take care of this house as well.”
Â
This is the first summer program under Wayne Buchanan’s new direction. He says this was a benchmark summer and that the program will only get stronger and better in the years to come.Â
