Parts of Alabama Experiencing a Severe Drought

AP_1208100451Authorities say extreme drought conditions are persisting in some Alabama counties, with severe and moderate drought conditions still in place in larger parts of the state.

The U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday shows that the worst conditions – classified as “extreme” drought – are in the northeast corner of Alabama. The area includes parts of Madison, Jackson and DeKalb counties.

A sliver of northwest Alabama along the Mississippi line is also experiencing extreme drought.

Severe drought conditions are also prevalent in parts of northern Alabama, northwest Alabama and in several counties near the Georgia line.
