National Guard Deploying Men to Afghanistan
Some members of Alabama National Guard are heading to Afghanistan. 19 National Guard personnel will deploy to support Afghan security forces. Guardsmen will work with the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Interior levels of Afghan government. Family members say it’s tough to tell their loved ones goodbye. About 24,000 Alabama Guardsmen have been called to active duty since the September 11th terrorist attacks.
