Parents want New Turn Signal at Carver High School

It’s an intersection that has been talked about for a while now.
But nothing seems to be done about it.

“I don’t understand why it’s taking so long to put a traffic signal at this intersection. It’s horrible. I’ve almost got hit so many times,” said Carver parent Carlissa Murphy.

City councilman David Burkette says he has talked to Carver principal Gary Hall about getting a turn signal in front of the school for a year and a half.

“This right here has been a painful situation and it’s kinda amazing we’ve only had a couple of accidents. But I don’t want it to go on any longer. I want something to change,” said Hall.

The city has provided more security in the area, but councilman Burkette says it’s not enough.

“We need something done immediately. Right now this is a band aid on that. I appreciate the public safety director and the job he is doing as far as getting security out here,” said Burkette.

Burkette says it will cost 100-200,000 dollars to install the traffic signal.
And the plans were in the works to replace it in 2015.

“Problem has been reported over and over and over, when we found out it was a money issue, that is no comparison to a life that is being lost,” said Burkette.

But now those plans have been put into action after the latest wreck. Crews work to mark off the infrastructure for the light.
Parents say they just hope it will be finished sooner rather than later.

“But if you spray these lines and tell me it won’t be done till two or three months from now, how many more accidents gonna happen in that time?” said Murphy.
