Montgomery Co. Humane Society: “One Of The Worst Animal Hoarding Cases Ever”

This video is no longer available.

The Montgomery Humane Society is investigating what they’re calling one of the worst cases of animal hoarding they’ve ever seen. Deputies teamed up with the Montgomery Police Department, where they spent all day pulling dozens of cats from a midtown home. Now investigators are looking into whether this person has taken care of other people’s animals.

Some cats have missing eyes. Some have other severe injuries.

Not one, or two — but about 40 cats — all in conditions Montgomery Humane Deputies and Montgomery Police call some of the worst they’ve ever seen.

“I’ve called quite a few times call and even just to get cages out. theyre just so terrible, there’s cat’s everywhere,” Said Brittany Mosely, who lives a few doors down.

Humane deputies say the investigation started after a neighbor found a dead cat on their yard. But now, there’s an even deeper investigation — where is the owner? And is she providing services for other people’s pets?

Deputies say when you look at her address on yellowpages.com, what shows up is “Dixie Cremations” and “Carey’s Animal Services and Pet Care.”

“It’s concerning to think that you’re finding several cats in bad condition and the people here may be connected to a separate  service that we trust to dispose of our loved animals,” Said Robert Bryant, deputy with the Montgomery County Humane Society.

Hours later, deputies found out the homeowner stopped providing that service several years ago.

Deputies say it took longer than usual to trap the cats because the condition of the home. Our cameras were not allowed inside, but deputies described to us what they saw.

“It’s just mounds of  junk just piled in There’s probably a 12-inch path that you might be able to get through, the smell is awful of cat urine, ammonia… nobody should live in a place like that,” Said Montgomery County Humane Society deputy, Steven Tears.

Deputies say some of the animals are barely alive.

“Hair loss, and really bad eye drainage so we went ahead and took that one and because of the condition of several of the other cats here in the same condition. They’ve got injured eyes, eye drainage, bad skin from the fleas,” Said Bryant.

There were so many cats scattered around the home, the Montgomery Humane Society had to bring about 20 more traps, placing them all around the neighborhood — even in other people’s yards.

The cats will be taken to the Montgomery Humane Society to get behavioral testing.

Meanwhile, deputies continue their search for the homeowner. They’re not releasing her name at this time, but believe she may still be in the area and was last seen driving a red older model car.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call the Montgomery County Humane Society at 409-0622.
