Hornet hoopsters look to get back to the rack
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (bamastatesports.com) – The Alabama State men’s basketball team has released their 2016-17 schedule and a 30-game slate is on tap with 11 home games plus two exhibition games for head coach Lewis Jackson and his Hornets.
After two home exhibition games against AUM and Huntington on Nov. 1 and Nov. 7, ASU opens with a challenging, road-heavy nonconference schedule that starts at Western Kentucky on Nov. 12.
It continues on the road with stops at Texas Christian (Nov. 14), at Louisiana Tech (Nov. 16), at Kennesaw State (Nov. 22) before a trip to Las Vegas where the Hornets will play Northern Arizona (Nov. 25) and either Jacksonville State or Cal State Fullerton (Nov. 26) contingent upon results.
The season home opener will take place on Nov. 29 when ASU hosts Jacksonville State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome at 7 p.m.
Four additional nonconference road contests are scheduled at Troy (Dec. 4), at San Diego State (Dec. 12), at Tennessee State (Dec. 14) and at Ball State (Dec. 22).
Alabama State returns home after Christmas for a meeting with Fort Valley State (Dec. 29) and then will open up SWAC play in the new year against Grambling State (Jan. 2) and Jackson State (Jan. 4).
The schedule plays out like out a typical season from that point forward with two games apiece (one home and one away) against each conference opponent until the first week in March.
The SWAC Tournament will be held in Houston, TX, once again at the Toyota Center from March 7-11.
The Hornets (14-17 overall, 9-9 SWAC in 2015-16) ended last season on a relatively high note by winning eight of 10 games down the stretch to conclude its regular season before losing to Southern in the first round of the SWAC Tournament in Houston.
