Alston Appointed Police Chief in Linden

There’s a new top cop in charge of the police department in the city of Linden.
Chief Robert Alston is the first African-american police chief in the history of the city.
Alston served as a lieutenant under longtime chief Scott McClure.
McClure resigned October 31st and Alston was appointed chief Monday.
Alston said he’s grateful for the opportunity to lead the department.
“I’m excited, my family’s excited. I just look forward to doing the job,” said Alston.
“Its not a black or white thing for me. Its about doing the job and doing a good job and being here for the citizens of the town.”
Alston said his main goal as chief is to strengthen the relationship between police and the community.
