Celebrating Alabama’s 197th Birthday
The state of Alabama celebrated its 197th birthday Wednesday.
In 1819, the state became the 22nd state of the union. Wednesday, well known historian and long-time author Dr. Wayne Flynt spoke to people at the Alabama Department of Archives and History about the state’s progress in politics. He discussed a revised chapter of a book he co-authored, “Alabama: The History of a Deep South State.”
Flynt says while the state has achieved great accomplishments. The state still has much to learn at it’s age.
“The biggest problem in alabama right now is that it’s a one party state and the traditions of american democracy is that when one party fouls up, is corrupt, no longer represents the vision of the people you have the other party to vote for,” says Dr. Flynt.
Flynt believes if everyone does their part Alabama will progress and stay on course.
