One More Warm Day, Then Cooler

Temperatures will once again be in the 70s today. A cold front will sink very slowly through the state today and tomorrow. The front will be bringing cooler air and with just enough added uplift, we can’t rule out a few scattered rain showers both days. Rain amounts will remain very light, generally under a quarter of an inch. We are going to see more clouds these two days, and with cooler air sliding south, the highs tomorrow will only be in the lower 60s.

FOR THE WEEKEND: Saturday will feature more sun than clouds, and it will be cool and dry. We start the day in the 30s, the high will be around 60°. Clouds return Sunday, ahead of an upper-level trough, but the last day or so, the models have really dried this feature out, but we will continue to mention a chance of some rain during the day and any rain that falls should not amount to much. Highs Sunday will be in the upper 50s.

FOR NEXT WEEK: The pattern becomes a bit more active next week, but it still looks as though Monday will be generally dry with partly cloudy conditions. There is a small risk of a shower, about one in five for Central Alabama. It will be warmer as temperatures climb back up into the 60s. By midweek, we are going to watch a storm system approach the state, and that is when we are going to see our next best chance of rain. An upper trough and associated surface front will cause rain and storms late Tuesday and into Wednesday, with rainfall totals under one inch. Still a lot uncertainty in regards to a severe weather threat, but we will be watching it carefully. This system should exit Thursday, and then much colder air looks to invade the state late next week and into the weekend. There is still a lot of winter left, we are not done with the freezing temperatures yet and it looks as though our next round of freezing temps arrives then.

Have a great day!
Ryan
