NBA Trade Deadline Trades Disappoint?

A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the Dallas Mavericks have acquired big man Nerlens Noel from the Philadelphia 76ers for Andrew Bogut, Justin Anderson and a protected first-round draft pick.

The two teams agreed on the deal on Thursday before the trade deadline. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the trade has not been announced by either team.

The 22-year-old Noel was the sixth overall pick in the 2013 draft. He clashed with the Sixers at times during his stay due to a logjam in the frontcourt that also included Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid. He gives the Mavericks an athletic, defensive-minded power forward who will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Yahoo Sports first reported the trade.

ATLANTA (AP) – The Atlanta Hawks have received scoring help for their playoff push by acquiring forward Ersan Ilyasova from the Philadelphia 76ers.

The 76ers announced Wednesday night they got center Tiago Splitter and a protected second-round draft pick from Atlanta. The 76ers have the right to swap another 2017 second-round pick with the Hawks.

The 6-foot-10 Ilyasova is expected to add scoring punch to Atlanta’s front line as the Hawks attempt to improve their playoff position. They will return from the All-Star break in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, a half-game behind Toronto.

Ilyasova has career averages of 11 points and six rebounds.

The 76ers are 13th in the East, ahead of only Orlando and Brooklyn.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The Oklahoma City Thunder have added some help for Russell Westbrook acquiring Chicago Bulls forwards Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott just before the NBA trade deadline.

Mark Bartelstein, the agent for Gibson and McDermott, confirmed the deal in an email to The Associated Press on Thursday. He said the Thunder sent Cameron Payne, Joffrey Lauvergne and Anthony Morrow to Chicago. The Bulls also will send a 2018 second-round pick to the Thunder.

Gibson adds the athleticism and experience to the front line that the Thunder lost when they traded Serge Ibaka in last year’s draft. McDermott improves the Thunder’s shaky outside shooting.

Payne was a promising backup to Westbrook but had missed much of the season with a foot injury. Morrow, primarily a 3-point shooter, lost playing time to rookie Alex Abrines this season.
