UPDATE: Driver Charged with Leaving the Scene of Fatal Crash

On Sunday, March 5, at about 2:15 a.m., Montgomery Police and Fire Medics responded to Northern Boulevard at Lower Wetumpka Road in reference to a three-vehicle collision that resulted in one fatality.

MPD also has charged one of the drivers, an adult male, with leaving the scene after one of the three vehicles left the site following the crash.

The crash involved a 2011 Suzuki GSX 1300 motorcycle, a 2013 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle, and a 2005 Acura RL. The driver of the Honda CBR, Michael Mulcahy, 39, of Wetumpka was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Suzuki GSX was transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, and the occupants of the 2005 Acura, which left the scene, were uninjured.

MPD’s initial investigation indicates the two motorcycles collided as they were travelling side by side eastbound on the Northern Boulevard. This collision caused both drivers to be vaulted from their motorcycles, landing in the westbound lanes, where Mulcahy subsequently was struck by the Acura.

After leaving the scene, the driver of the Acura, Douglas Marks, 73, of Millbrook was located Sunday afternoon by MPD with the assistance of the Millbrook Police Department. MPD charged Marks with leaving the scene of an accident with injury and transported him to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

Accident investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash, and no further information is available for release at this time. Police ask individuals with knowledge of this crash to call accident investigations at 625-2876.
