New Commander Over Maxwell AFB’s Air University

The River Region and the Air Force said goodbye to one of Maxwell Air Force Base’s commanders today.
Â
Lieutenant General David Fadok passed command to a new general.Â
Â
General Fadok was in charge of Air University, a vital program at Maxwell Air Force Base.
Â
Now as Fadok prepares for the next chapter of his life, his replacement is ready to hit the ground running.Â
Â
The commander and president of Air University is a big job.
Â
Thousands of officers and enlisted come through the doors to become smarter and more capable.Â
Â
It’s something that Lieutenant General David Fadok will miss.
Â
“We produce the future. That’s what air university is all about. And I can’t tell you a better way to wrap up a career as an american airman than to be in a position to shape the future of our service that’s coming in behind us,” said Fadok.Â
Â
General Fadok has served over 30 years in the Air Force.
Â
He’s spent the last three and a half in Montgomery.
Â
Now he’s moving on to civilian life and retiring, but will stay in Alabama.
Â
His replacement, Lieutenant General Steven Kwast, was here in 1996 as a student and he’s happy to be back.
Â
“What I’d like to do is to continue on these transformational initiatives that General Fadok has set into place that the air force is working on and the larger picture to adapt and keep air power relevant for the world,” said Gen. Kwast.
Â
Hundreds filled the park to see the change of command. Mayors from across the River Region and even Congresswoman Martha Roby, who says it’s crucial to continue to work with the base.
Â
“These relationships are so important. For me as a member of congress to be able to know what to push for and fight for in Congress, I have to have a great relationship with the commanding general here in order to know what exactly it is that we need,” said Roby.Â
