Fatal Crash on I-85 Claims Two Lives
A three-vehicle crash Friday has claimed two lives and injured three others.
Roberto Linares, 55, of Montgomery and a 16-month-old of Hapeville, Ga., were killed as passengers in a 2001 Toyota Sienna. Linares was not using a seat belt, but the child was in a child-restraint system.
The Toyota was struck by a 2011 Freightliner tractor trailer before striking a 2014 Ford Focus. The three remaining occupants in the Toyota were transported to a local hospital with injuries.
The crash occurred at 6:30 p.m. on Interstate 85 between the 24-25 mile markers, approximately two miles north of Shorter. Another collision occurred shortly afterward, causing damage to a bridge support on Interstate 85 near the fatal crash scene.
The roadway between the 22 and 26 mile markers is closed until bridge repairs can be made.
Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
