Two Students Arrested After Package Thefts

Police are sending out a warning in Troy to keep an eye on delivered packages.Â
Â
Police say they’ve received a startling number of reports of packages stolen off of door steps. There have even been reports of cars following delivery trucks to see where they will be making stops.
Â
Thefts of this kind tend to increase this time of year, and with the increase in online shopping, it is a perfect time for thieves to strike.
Â
Lt. Bryan Weed, Troy Police Department said, “I know several companies as well as postal service you have can have the package there instead and then pick them up. Instead of having them delivered to your home. I know it’s a slight inconvenience but it’s a lot better than someone stealing your property.”
Â
Here are some other tips to make sure you aren’t the next victim:
-ask for a signature at time of delivery
-deliver to your work place
-track packages carefullyÂ
Â
Police are urging anyone to call in suspicious activity immediately.Â
Â
Troy police say there are two people in custody for stealing packages. But police are still working to locate all the victims and link them to the stolen property. The suspects identities will not be released because Troy police say they may be eligible for youthful offender status. Officials confirm they are Troy University students. And numerous items were found in their apartment.Â
Â
The students have been charged with second degree receiving stolen property and are being held in jail on $5,000 bond.Â
Â
Troy police say to check and see if your packages have been delivered and report if you’re missing anything- (334) 566-0500.Â
