‘The Interview’ to be Released in Several Theaters

The Interview, the controversial comedy that negatively portrays North Korea’s Supreme Leader, Kim Jong-un, will be released after all.
The film will be shown in a limited number of theaters on Christmas Day.
It’s supposed to be a comedy, but controversy surrounding The Interview has been anything but funny. After an anonymous group threatened terrorist attacks on theaters that planned to show the movie, it was pulled by several chain theaters which led to SONY cancelling its release. A move that got a thumbs down from some Montgomery residents.
“I think it was a bad idea that they did that,” said Takevious Leonard. “I was planning on going to see it this weekend. I hope it’s pretty good.”
“It’s kind of dumb,” said resident Jack Bennett. “They should have just showed it first off. It kind of makes people not want to go see it if they cancel it so they should’ve showed it the first try.”
Now, SONY will release the film in a limited number of independent theaters on Christmas Day. The Edge Theater in Birmingham will show it, and so will Continental Cinemas in Troy, with a rep writing “Guess what? We will open “The Interview” on Christmas Day. Dictators don’t get to decide what movies we watch in America” on the theater’s facebook page.
“It seems kind of controversial because they make fun of North Korea’s leader but we usually make fun of other people too,” said Neal Patel of Montgomery.
As for Montgomery’s Capri Theatre, a rep posted on the theater’s facebook page “Sony is playing around with The Interview right now. As we are closed, we can’t show it right now. I’m going to keep an eye on what happens.” And now, some say they plan on driving to see the film.
“I would go see the movie because it’s a comedy and it’s James Franco and Seth Rogan, they’re really funny,” said Ben Cowart.
North Korea has denied it had anything to do with the terrorist threats but the FBI says it believes the group has ties to the country.
