Deer Hunting Season Ramps Up During the Holidays in Selma

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Shopping isn’t the only activity that peaks during the Christmas holiday season.

The deer hunting industry starts to shift into high gear in the Alabama Black Belt region during the holidays.

The Black Belt region is known nationwide for some of the best hunting in the entire country.

Deer hunter Henry Ramsey, Jr. of Selma says this time of year — deer start to move around more.

“All over the country everyone else’s season is over, so if you’re an avid hunter you have to come to central Alabama to get it on,” said Ramsey. “We enjoy the company but they can’t outdo an old country boy.”

Deer season has been extended to February 10th in the southern region of the state but it ends on January 31st — everywhere else.
