Alabama Agriculture Impacted by Freezing Temps

The freezing temperatures are also having an impact on agriculture across the state. Cattle farmers are just one group taking extra care. Many are putting out extra feed to make sure the cows keep up their body temperature. That also means breaking ice so they can get to water. But one cattle farmer says it’s not as bad as you would think.

 
“right now we have about 50 baby calves and they’re anywhere from a week to three weeks old and it’s amazing how tough they are. A lot of people ask us how are the cows doing when they’re that cold and actually they do very well as long as they have something to eat.” says cattle farmer-Tony Hopper
 
Tony does say that it could be trouble if a cow gave birth in these cold temperatures.
