Selma Preparing for Biggest-Ever Bridge Crossing Jubilee Crowd

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Record-breaking crowds are expected to pour into Selma for the 50th anniversary of the Selma Voting Rights Movement — and preparations are already underway to deal with all the people.

The Golden Anniversary of the Selma Voting Rights Movement — and a visit from the President of the United States is expected to draw the biggest Jubilee crowd ever. Tourism officials estimate the crowd could reach around 100,000 people.

“The people that are going to benefit the most from this is our hospitality and food service industry that we have in Selma and Dallas County,” said Chamber of Commerce Diretor Sheryl Smedley. “The skies the limit for those two industries.”>

The crowds are also expected to spark an increase in sales tax revenue and provide an economic boost to the local economy.
