Broncos QB competition still neck and neck after first week

By ARNIE STAPLETON - AP Pro Football Writer

Neither Drew Lock nor Teddy Bridgewater has separated himself from the other a week into their training camp competition to serve as the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback. Both men had another up-and-down day Wednesday and both threw interceptions to cap the 2-minute drills that ended practice. One bright spot for the Broncos offense was the play of wide receiver Courtland Sutton. He’s coming back from a torn ACL that occurred in the second week of the 2020 season. He has made several jaw-dropping plays to help out his quarterbacks, who remain neck-and-neck after seven practices.

Broncos rookie linebacker returns from 3 heart procedures

By ARNIE STAPLETON - AP Pro Football Writer

The player who seems to be showing the most heart at Broncos training camp is rookie linebacker Jonathon Cooper, who underwent three procedures in May to correct an irregular heartbeat. Cooper was diagnosed as a teenager with a heart condition that caused a rapid heartbeat and he had two procedures to correct it in high school. He then played football at a high level for eight years, including five at Ohio State. So you can imagine his surprise when a pre-draft EKG revealed the heart issue. He ended up needing three cardiac procedures to restore his normal heart rhythm.
