4:35 p.m.

Brooks Koepka has made his first bogey of the PGA Championship.

The defending champion and first-round leader landed in the fairway bunker off the 10th tee, then hit his second shot into the rough in front of a sand trap protecting the green. He pitched past the hole and then left his par putt about 9 inches short.

Koepka had seven birdies and no bogeys in the first round en route to a course-record 63 at Bethpage Black. He was the only player in the field to post a

Judge: Ex-NFL players must see neurologists close to home

by Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A federal judge in Philadelphia says retired NFL players seeking testing as part of a $1 billion concussion settlement must see a doctor close to home to prevent fraud and “doctor shopping.”

Lawyers for thousands of ex-players say they agreed to the settlement because they could choose their own neurologist. Their lawsuits alleged the NFL long hid what it knew about concussions and brain injuries.

Some players’ lawyers call the ruling Thursday from Senior U.S. District Judge Anita Brody a significant change to the 2013 settlement.

The league and the former players are

UEFA head Ceferin says all ideas open for Champions League

by Associated Press

BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Amid rising tensions between European clubs and leagues over shaping the Champions League’s future, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin insisted Friday all ideas are on the table and nothing is yet settled.

Ceferin hosted 55 UEFA member federations to share ideas for the format of the competition beginning in 2024 as part of a year-long process in which the European Club Association’s draft plan shaped the early debate.

Recent history suggests wealthy clubs get most of what they want. The veiled threat of forming a breakaway Super League has been useful leverage.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The owner of Maximum Security has made a multimillion-dollar challenge to the owners of four horses that benefited from his horse’s historic disqualification in the Kentucky Derby.

West offered an alternate possibility of a $1.86 million wager — the winner’s share for the Kentucky Derby. The condition of the challenge is that each

The Latest: Juncos Racing to pull all-nighter building car

by Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Latest on Indianapolis 500 practice (all times local):

3:15 p.m.

Juncos Racing will work overnight if needed to have a car ready to qualify for the Indianapolis 500.

Kyle Kaiser crashed the car early on “Fast Friday” at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the near-airborne wreck destroyed the entry. Juncos lost both its primary sponsors right before practice began this week for the May 26 race, but Kaiser had managed an impressive three days on track until the accident.

Team owner Ricardo Juncos praised Kaiser and the crew for not bowing to the adversity.

Juncos says
