Fast-Food Workers Call for Strike in Opelika

Fast-food workers and activists who want a raise in the minimum wage are planning to strike this week in Opelika and elsewhere across the country.
The Opelika-Auburn News reports (http://bit.ly/1nwQrly) that representatives with the group “Low Pay is not OK” announced that a strike would take place at 10 a.m. Thursday in Opelika’s Tiger Town area.
The group is calling for employees to strike at some of Opelika’s major fast-food restaurants, including McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Burger King.
Nationwide, fast-food restaurants on Thursday are expected to be targeted with strikes and acts of civil disobedience as labor organizers escalate their campaign to unionize the industry’s workers.
