Alabama School Wants Alleged Rape Victim to Reveal Name

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – An Alabama school system says a former student should have to reveal her name publicly to pursue legal claims that a school worker used her as bait for a sexual assault.
Madison County schools have filed documents opposing anonymity for a 19-year-old woman who claims she was raped at school in 2010 during a scheme hatched by a teacher’s aide to catch another student accused of improper sexual advances.
An attorney for the young woman calls the system’s position unusual, but a school board attorney says it’s consistent with the law.
The school board’s position came in response to a request by the ex-student to be included in a lawsuit filed by her father. She wants to use only her initials because of the nature of the case.
