Tuskegee softball postponed until the weekend

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (goldentigersports.com) —  The Tuskegee University softball team will venture into conference play, beginning defense of their back-to-back Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) championships against Stillman College on Saturday afternoon after the torrential downpour on the area on Thursday.

The games orginally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, have been moved to Saturday and Sunday. The series will start with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 pm, with the series closing with a single game on Sunday at 12 noon.

Tuskegee (0-17) has played their toughest schedule to date in non-conference play, facing three teams ranked inside the top 25 and another two who are receiving votes. The teams on the 2016 schedule have combined to win over 100 games this season.

The Lady Golden Tigers and Stillman (3-8, 3-0 SIAC) have faced each other to open conference play for Tuskegee in each of the last three seasons. Last season, Tuskegee was able to win two of three in the series after dropping the first game 5-1. They came back to win game two 12-11, and game three 7-6.

Two years ago, the Lady Golden Tigers won three of four in the series winning by an average of nearly seven runs per game.

This season, Tuskegee has a senior-laden roster with nine on the roster; however, a trio of freshman are leading the way through the first 17 games. Sharde Thomas, who has seen action at short and catcher, leads the team in hitting with a .407 average. Fellow freshman Roneshia Rudolph is second on the team in hitting at .296 – after hitting over .300 last week.

Kaylin Finch is fourth on the team in hitting with a .277 average and a team-leading two homeruns – which she is tied with Jamaica Williams.

On the mound, five players have seen action this season including senior Karisa Foye who leads the team with a 5.25 earned run average.
