Golden Tiger netter squads make SIAC tourney cuts

ATLANTA, GA  (goldentigersports.com) —  The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference released the seedings and brackets for the upcoming tennis championships in Jonesboro next weekend, and both tennis programs from Tuskegee University qualified for the tournament.

The Tuskegee (13-4, 12-1 SIAC) women enter the tournament as the number two seed behind the only team who beat them in conference play, Benedict (16-5, 13-0 SIAC).

They will face third-seeded Clark Atlanta (10-10, 10-5 SIAC) in the opening round at 8 am on Friday, while Benedict will face fourth-seeded Stillman (8-9, 8-5 SAIC). The Lady Golden Tigers have faced each of the three teams in the tournament, defeating Stillman and Clark Atlanta each twice. The championship match is set for 11 am Saturday.

Tuskegee has won 11 of their last 12 matches, including 10 consecutive conference matches, with their only loss in the streak coming at the hands of top-ranked BYU-Hawai’i.

Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Tuskegee (3-9, 3-12 SIAC) qualified for the championship as the fourth seed. They will face the reigning conference champion, Benedict (13-9, 13-0 SIAC) in the opening round of the tournament at 11 amFriday. Second-seeded Morehouse (9-7, 8-3 SIAC) will face third-seeded Stillman (6-8, 6-5 SIAC) at 8 am Friday.

The Tuskegee University athletic communications office will provide coverage of the championships beginning when the teams leave on Thursday up until the final match of the championships via all of our social media platforms.
