ASU’s Howe snags 2nd SWAC POTW of season

MONTGOMERY, Ala (bamastatesports.com)- For the second time this season, Alabama State pitcher Tyler Howe has been named Southwestern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Howe (6-1, 235; R-Jr., Lakeland, Fla.) allowed three hits and one unearned run with no walks and seven strikeouts in Saturday’s 16-4 win in seven innings at Alabama A&M.

Howe, who earned the honor two weeks ago for his three-hit shutout performance in which he struck out 10 in a 3-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on March 19, is 5-2 this season with a 1.23 ERA. In 44.0 innings pitched, he’s allowed 34 hits, 12 runs (six earned), with eight walks and 44 strikeouts.

The Hornets (19-12 overall, 12-0 SWAC), off to their best start ever in league play, host South Alabama Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
