Milton McGregor vows to open Victoryland by early summer despite an Alabama Supreme Court ruling. Victoryland supports say the recent Supreme Court ruling is not the end for the once popular gaming facility. At Monday’s press conference supporters say they plan to appeal the ruling and ask for a re-hearing. Meanwhile, McGregor says the doors will open in “early summer” just as soon as the new machines are in place and training is completed.

He says he’s had over 4,000 applicants and plans to hire 1,000 in the coming weeks.

“We are now in the final stages of getting set to hire people and reopen Victoryland,” McGregor said in a statement. “We will work closely with the Macon County Sheriff and the District Attorney to make sure our bingo games meet the Alabama Constitution as well as rules established for Macon County. We will not proceed without getting their vetting and approval.”

McGregor went on to say many of the games will be identical to the games played at nearby Indian Casinos in Montgomery. He also says new games will be added.

The Alabama supreme court ruled Thursday that it was legal for the state to seize electronic bingo machines and cash in 2013.  Justices said the bingo machines were not included in state laws that allow card and paper type bingo games.
