Gov. Bentley Awards Grants to Equip Millbrook Police

AP_031022010305Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded three grants totaling $10,531 to provide equipment upgrades for the Millbrook Police Department.

The grants will enable the city to upgrade body cameras and patrol weapons. Police officials said the department will purchase new, more reliable body cameras to replace old, worn-out units. The department also is upgrading their patrol-vehicle weapons from older shotguns to rifles, giving officers more precision in cases when use of the weapons is necessary. The funding will also purchase ammunition used in training exercises and mountable flashlights for the rifles.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.

Bentley notified Mayor Al Kelley that the grants had been approved.
