Kin of Teen Killed by Police Seek Charges, Criticize Panel

Supporters of the family of a 19-year-old man shot and killed by a Mobile police officer are calling for criminal charges against the officer and for Mayor Sandy Stimpson to remove himself from a police citizens advisory council selection process.

AL.com reports that in her first public comments since her son Michael Moore’s shooting, Shunta Daugherty continued to question Tuesday the whereabouts of the weapon police say her son brandished before he was fatally shot during a traffic stop by Officer Harold Hurst on June 13.

Stimpson and Police Chief James Barber said Monday they would support the advisory council if the mayor selected seven members. Council members would select another seven.

The Ordinary People’s Society executive director pastor Kenneth Glasgow says that not letting the community pick the members is a problem.

Glasgow also requested that negligent homicide or manslaughter charges be filed against Hurst.
