Footbridge to be Named After NFL Hall of Famer, Ken Stabler?

FOLEY, Ala. (AP) – Officials have discussed naming a new pedestrian bridge in coastal Alabama after recent Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Ken Stabler.

Al.com reports that a $1.5 million bridge is currently being built in Foley above Alabama State Route 59, the state’s busiest beach-bound highway.

Baldwin County Probate Judge Tim Russell says he got the idea to name the bridge after Foley’s late football star while visiting Canton, Ohio for the National Football League’s 54th annual Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday.

Russell, who was Foley’s former mayor from 1996-2006, says he was inspired by Canton’s Hall of Fame bridge, which contains images of football players.

Foley Mayor John Koniar says it’s an idea worth considering, but it would be up to the City Council to discuss.

Stabler died in July 2015 of colon cancer.
