Montgomery neighborhood landmark stolen
84-year-old Carlos Outlaw has lived in the Forest Hills neighborhood for over fifty years and is well known by many of his neighbors. He also is known for a popular sign that has stood in his front yard for the past 45 years. Recently though, that sign was stolen.
Neighbors call the sign a landmark.
“It was a wonderful sign,” said Cindy Johnson, “that’s how you knew it was Forest Hills, the Forest Hills sign and Mr. Outlaw’s sign.”
The sign was made by Outlaw’s brother from timber found in a mill pond where they grew up.
“It’s just part of family you know, but he did all of the carving in it and brought it to me,” Outlaw shared.
He says the sign weighed between 200 and 250 pounds. He thinks whoever stole it drug it through his front yard.
He is asking for anyone with information about the sign to come forward. He is offering a small reward, no questions asked, if the person with the sign just returns it.
