AUM XC opens with 9th place showing at JSU opener
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (aumathletics.com) — The Auburn Montgomery men’s cross country team opened its 2016 season by finishing ninth in the White Division (non-DI) of the JSU Opener Friday, hosted by Jacksonville State.
INDIVIDUAL FINISHES
• Jacob Russell Lister led the Warhawks by finishing the 5K event in a time of 17:03.1. The finish was good for 74th overall and 37th in the White Division.
• Chris Swann posted a time of 17:50.9, finishing 48th in the division and 102nd overall.
- Jacob Crouch tallied a time of 17:57.3 in his collegiate debut to finish 106th. He finished 50th in the division.
- Dozier Atwell finished in 18:36.9, a time that placed him 115th overall and 53rd in the division.
- Brandon Bennefield followed closely behind at 18:43.1 to finish 117th overall and 54th in the division.
- Anfernee Williams recorded a time of 18:49.4, finishing 56th in the division and 121st overall.
- Patrick Gregorious finished in 21:35.3 and was 136th overall. He was 66th in the division.
TEAM FINISHES
• Alabama-Huntsville earned the White Division championship with 35 points.
• North Alabama took second with 79 points.
- Birmingham-Southern finished third with 95 points, followed closely by Clayton State with 99 points.
- AUM finished with 242 total points in the meet.
- The Warhawks finished ahead of Division II foe Tuskegee.
NOTES
• The meet was the first of the season for the Warhawks.
• Auburn had the top five finishers in the field, led by individual medalist Kevin Wyss with a time of 15:20.
- Anthony Wells from UAH won the individual championship in the White Division with a time of 15:23.5.

“Our men had an incredibly tough week of training and I thought their legs were a little tired. It was nice to see Jacob Russell run a strong race and Chris have a successful showing as well. I think the men have a lot of upside.”
UP NEXT
• The men will return to action Saturday, Sept. 17, by participating in the Falcon Classic, hosted by the University of Montevallo. The meet is slated to begin at 8 a.m.
