Lazy, Late Summer Days: Future Forecaster Kyndall McGowan

Not much change in the day to day forecast this time of year as the ridge in place across the Southeast continues to be the main feature influencing our weather. It will be another mainly sunny day across Central Alabama as temperatures will climb well into the 90s. Humidity levels continue to be lower than they can be this time of year, so the heat is tolerable verses being oppressive like we see in July and August. Once again, drier air heats up and cools off more effectively and that is why we are seeing such a large diurnal temperature range. The radar will be quiet again today, and that is expected for tomorrow as well as with highs in the mid 90s.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: High school games played tonight across Alabama will be rain-free with a clear sky; temperatures will fall from the mid 80s at kickoff into the 70s by the final whistle.

Alabama hosts Western Kentucky Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the 2016 home opener (2:30p CT kickofF)… the sky will be mostly sunny with lower 90s at kickoff… dropping back into the mid to upper 80s by the end of the game.

Auburn will host Arkansas State at Jordan Hare Stadium Saturday evening (6:30p CT kickoff)… the sky will be clear with temperatures falling from 87 at kickoff into the upper 70s by the fourth quarter.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Rain chances begin to increase as our moisture levels rise, and the upper high weakens slightly. For Saturday it looks like we stay dry, however, by Sunday a weak surface front will drift into North Alabama. We will mention a slight risk of a shower, but for now it looks like the chance of any one spot getting wet is only about one in ten with little moisture and no upper support. Highs both days should be in the mid 90s.

FOR NEXT WEEK: No real threat of rain as we head deeper into September. There could be an isolated shower near the surface boundary on Monday, but it still looks to be an overall dry week of weather. Highs each day are expected to be in the lower 90s, while lows will be in the lower 70s.
