Pike County Jail Concerns

After ongoing structural issues at the Pike County Jail, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department believes it’s time for a new jail.

According to a document from the Sheriff, the jail has interior corrosion and stopped up drains.

Sheriff Russell Thomas also says the jail is experiencing roofing leaks and walls are separating from the building. the jail was designed for 40 inmates but houses around 60 inmates.

“We worry about the safety of the inmates and we don’t think there’s a danger to the inmates inside the jail. the problem is outside with the outside wall,” says Sheriff Russell Thomas.

It’s not known how much a new jail would cost the county right now.
