ASU’s Avaricio wins South Alabama Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala. (bamastatesports.com) – Alabama State’s Chanelle Avaricio shot a 72 on the third and final day of the University of South Alabama Intercollegiate to become the overall winner of the event after a three-day total of 215 (70-73-72).

Avaricio led the Lady Hornets to an eighth place finish with a team total 910 (307-309-303).  Today’s total of 303 was the best round for ASU during the three-day event.

Sylvia Masango continued her strong play during today’s round.  She followed up her career-best 71 in yesterday’s round with a 73 today and joined Avaricio in the top-10 with a 220 (75-71-74) for a seventh place finish.

Dismary Marquez had her best round of the tournament with a 73.  She finished tied for 29th with a 227 (77-77-73).  Saidah Bodden (55th) finished her three-day total with today’s 84 and finished with a 257 for the event.

“The team played well enough to contend for the title,” Head Coach Dr. Gary Grandison said.  “I am very happy with their start to the season.”

The Lady Hornets next fall event will take place Sept. 24-27 at the Chris Banister Golf Classic in Silver Lakes, Ala.
