Jenkins looks for consistency amid Hornets’ 1-5 start
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (bamastatesports.com) – Alabama State head football coach Brian Jenkins addressed the media during Monday’s SWAC Head Coaches weekly teleconference conducted by the Southwestern Athletic Conference office.
The Hornets had a three-point lead late at Prairie View A&M, but eventually fell 24-17 in overtime.
“I thought we should have won and we let it slip away,” Jenkins said.
“Prairie View played a hard fought football game. They fought back. They had a fighting spirit. They lined up so give them credit.”
Despite the loss, Jenkins said his team worked hard.
“We’re just not finishing the job,” Jenkins added.
“As a coach, I have to find a solution to get it done. We’re just not finishing and that’s a major attention getter to me. Camaraderie is necessary for a team on—and off—the team. It is a major building block if you want a build a championship program. Winning is hard. Many people don’t understand how hard it is to consistently win. You need consistency in order to win and be successful. Somewhere along the line—some of those things—we are not doing consistently. And, I have to find out what that is and be willing to make some changes.”
ASU will return home to host Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the new ASU Stadium.
