AL Dept. of Education Votes Unanimously to Intervene in MPS
The Alabama Department of Education has unanimously voted to intervene and take over Montgomery Public Schools.
This comes one day after MPS delivered a 200-plus page letter to the superintendent, saying they want to work collaboratively with the state board.
School superintendent Michael Sentance says the board has a plan to improve the Montgomery public school system.
After the vote, the board appointed Doctor Barbara Cooper has MPS’s new chief administrative officer.
They also listed the ways they are working to improve fiscal accountability, student achievement and nutrition.
