Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning says on social media that he will not be leaving the Ducks to replace the retiring Nick Saban at Alabama.

Lanning was considered to be a top potential candidate. But Lanning said on X he was staying put.

“I want to be here in Eugene for as long as Eugene will have me,” Lanning said in a video post that included the text “And I’m not leaving.”

Rumors had circulated shortly after Saban announced his retirement Wednesday that Lanning was in Tuscaloosa. But CBS Sports reports that according to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Lanning was watching a movie with his family when those rumors circulated.

In July, Lanning agreed to a contract extension with Oregon that will extend his deal through the 2028 season. The Oregon Board of Trustees unanimously approved paying Lanning $45 million in base salary over six years.
