Pay It Forward: Roberta Burns of Selma
Roberta Burns is a certified nursing assistant at a nursing home in Selma. But she’s known to the residents and staff for caring for them in another special way.
“She loves to cook home-cooked meals and she brings them to the residents here. She also brings them to the staff. She loves to cook and she is always talking about sharing,” said staff member Clarissa King.
“She’s sweet. She’s real kind. I actually learned a lot from her doing a lot of work and stuff and taking care of myself. She’s real nice. She’s older than me, so she’s like a mom to me. Even when I don’t want to come to work, I go ‘she’s here, so let me go,’ so you can learn a lot from her as you listen,” said staff member Elizabeth Strowder.
For all she does for others, Stewart Vance surprised her with the Pay It Forward award: $333.
“It means a lot. But I wasn’t expecting this. This is just me. I’ve been like this my whole life, even in the neighborhood all my life. We were brought up to help people, so it’s just me,” said Burns.
