Pay It Forward: Herbert Wheat of Montgomery
Herbert Wheat works for the Montgomery County Commission.
But it’s what he does outside of work that got him nominated for the Vance Law Firm’s Pay It Forward award.
“Because he do so much for people in Montgomery and he hosted a little league football team. He never asked nobody for a penny. If the kids didn’t pay, he came through. He paid for everybody, so he could have a good league. And he took care of his family even when his son passed away and his wife was fighting breast cancer. He stood 10 toes down and he did everything he could for everybody and even at his job at the Montgomery County Commission,” said his nominator Honey Wheat.
While it’s not about the money or award, Herbert Wheat says he appreciates the recognition.
“I feel honored. I feel seen. When you do a lot of good things, you don’t ask for something. Try to be selfless. You don’t want to be saying, ‘look at me, look at what I’m doing.’ Just accept what you are doing and do it in faith,” said Wheat.
