Pay It Forward: Margaret Ward of Tallassee
As the school year ended, Margaret Ward drove her last bus route for Tallassee City Schools after 46 years.
“She has always been a part of the community as far as the buses and students’ field trips, ball games. If that bus has moved, she’s probably been on it. But she has done a lot for the community,” said Scott Justiss.
She has come to know a lot of the kids on her bus over the years.
“I know she has had a lot of influence over the students she has put in a lot of work and dedication into molding them and try to be the best that they can be,” said her nominator Jamie Ward.
We asked her what has kept her going day after day, year after year.
“I guess the kids. I mean, I thought the world of all my kids and I had pretty good kids on my bus. They pretty well know where I stood and where I didn’t. I had some get on with the boys pants down. I’d say, ‘nope, you’re not riding my bus with your pants down, get them up,'” said Ward.
And it’s the kids that she will miss the most.
“I’d love to see all of them that have finished off my bus. See what they are doing. I know some of them are in college. Some playing football, some playing, you know, other things. I’d love to know where all of them are at. I’d love to see them,” said Ward.
