Hundreds come out for annual Independence Day parade in Prattville

The annual Prattville Independence Day parade had a theme of “Party in the U.S.A.” this year.
The parade wound its way through the streets downtown on Thursday morning, featuring floats, candy, music and a lot of fun.
This year’s grand marshal was June Dorough. She was selected for her work with the special needs community and the Field of Dreams in Prattville. om the floats.
“I’m going to say, just do what you love.  I think I was chosen because I do so much for the special needs community, and I just want to tell people to be kind and get out there and help out,” Dorough said.
While the parade is always a fun way to start Independence Day, people like Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson hopes the meaning behind the holiday is never lost.
“Over the years, I think a lot of us have forgotten the sacrifices made to where we could do things like this, and until we get that back in our minds, we just need to remember a lot of people died to give us these rights,” Thompson told Action 8 News.
