An unsung hero of the civil rights movement honored with a special celebration Sunday

An unsung hero of the civil rights movement was honored with a special celebration Sunday in Montgomery. The Dream Team Band performed, and around a hundred people came to Alabama State University’s campus to hear about the impact Reverend Richard Boone made advocating for economic justice and social change through grassroots organizing and direct action.

Boone was instrumental in bringing the federal food stamp program to Alabama, and he was unjustly thrown in jail numerous times for activism, where he wrote what is known as the “toilet paper manifesto.” He also played a crucial role in the Selma to Montgomery march on “Bloody Sunday.” A special painting of Reverend Boone was also revealed Sunday as well.
