Troy’s Sean Darnell earns Sun Belt Player of the Week
Following a dominant weekend at the plate, including a 5-hit game, Troy second baseman Sean Darnell has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week.
Darnell’s honor gives Troy the first two Sun Belt Players of the Week of the 2025 season, as Shane Lewis was named the SBC Player of the Week in Week 1.
During Troy’s midweek game at Auburn and weekend sweep over Northwestern State, Darnell batted .533 with a .733 OPS. He went 8-for-15 at the plate and tallied one home run, seven RBIs, three walks, two hit by pitches and nine runs scored.
In Saturday’s 14-12 win over Northwestern State, the junior from Wetumpka, Ala., went 5-for-6 and drove in four runs. It was Troy’s first 5-hit game since Tremayne Cobb Jr. did so against Georgia Southern on May 6, 2023, and the only 5-hit performance in the Sun Belt this season.
Darnell crushed a 3-run homer in the second inning in Sunday’s 14-4 run-rule win, which was just the start of Troy’s dominant day at the plate.
Through seven games this season, Darnell leads the Sun Belt in batting average (.542) and is tied with his teammate Blake Cavill for the Sun Belt lead in hits (13) and RBIs (12).
No. 20 ranked Trojans are back in action on Tuesday at No. 15 Mississippi State before returning home to Riddle-Pace Field on Wednesday to face UAB.
