Wilcox Co. Extension Office hosts annual Safety Day

The Wilcox County Extension Office hosted its annual Safety Day event Thursday in Camden.
The event brought nearly a hundred third graders from all over the county — out to the airport park to learn about safety.
“Every year we have kids that’s constantly getting hurt. They’re doing different things because they are wondering. And so, we’re teaching them these safety skills. These are skills that they can take with them,” said Director Shareka Johns.
Over a dozen booths were set up to share safety information with the students.
Kids learned how to be safe around electricity — how to be safe outside in nature — how to be safe around animals — and even how to properly wash their hands.
“We’re teaching them a lot of things and they’re learning so much. So, that make me feel happy. And I like to see kids happy,” said Wilcox Central HS Student Ambassador Victoria Pettway.
Safety Day is held on the first Thursday in the month of May each year.
