ACTION 8 UPDATE:

The suspect in an early robbery turned shooting this morning was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Upper Wetumpka Road.

Montgomery police say officers were called around 9:15 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Herron Street after receiving a call regarding a person shot and a robbery.

Once there, they made contact with an adult male victim with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say the suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle prior to officers arriving.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency tells Action 8 News that a Special Agent working with the MACS Unit, located the stolen vehicle on Upper Wetumpka Road and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The driver was identified as 19-year-old Raymond Tellis, Jr., of Montgomery.

During the course of the traffic stop, the Special Agent attempted to arrest Tellis; however, Tellis resisted and pulled a firearm from his waistband.

The Special Agent discharged their weapon killing Tellis. No officers were injured over the course of the incident.

Special Agents that are not assigned to the Montgomery area were called in to conduct the officer-involved shooting investigation.

Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.
