Pay It Forward: Bernard Pace of Tuskegee
Bernard Pace is a trained food service worker. He spent 23 years in the Army as a cook and supervisor. Now he uses his skills to help his church.
“The fact that he comes whenever we have things, and that’s quite frequently, he’s here like 6:00 in the morning preparing meals by himself until all of us get up out of the bed maybe 10 or 11. He doesn’t complain,” said nominator Doretha Heard.
Not only that, Pace is also a bee keeper and makes it his mission to help train others in his community on how to set up beehives and maintain them.
And he is also a mechanic. Folks in his community know they can count on him.
“Everybody comes to him when they have an emergency and he always takes the time to stop and help and we just wanted to let him know how much we appreciated him,” said Heard.
When asked about why he gives back so much, his answer was a simple one.
“I enjoy making people happy and that’s what it’s all about,” said Pace.
